This is a transcription of an interview that I had with a client part way through our organizing process. This was recorded during a shining moment when her teenage daughter had also decided to get help getting her room organized after watching the progress we were making in her mom’s closet. As your kids begin their evening homework, have them first check their planner to see what is due before they empty their backpack. Encourage them to pull out each assignment one at a time.
As each assignment is done, have them put it back into their pack. This way nothing will get left behind at home.
Resist the temptation to stash your cleaning supplies wherever they will fit. Instead create a cleaning station with all supplies in one bucket.
With everything in one bucket, you can take it from room to room as you clean. This will save you time and money. You wont have to search for the scrubby sponge or buy duplicate supplies. When you run out, you will know it and will be able to restock in a flash on your next shopping trip.

Situation: This guest room had fallen prey to typical problems. Without use, rooms like this often become disorganized dumping grounds for whatever items do not easily fit into other parts of the house.
Challenge: A son was moving in for a few months and we needed to get the room organized and ready for him to live in. Where does everything now go and how do we also create enough closet space for the son?
Solution: We cleared out the hall linen closet and the master closet to make enough room to move out the extra items that were in the guest room. In the end, we were able to set up a nice space for her son with a computer desk, stereo and even room in the closet for his clothes!
Organizing Your Master Closet
Organizing your master closet will make getting dressed in the morning easy if you first determine how you decide what you will wear each day.
For instance, I start choosing what to wear by determining what the temperature is going to be that day. With that in mind, I start putting together an outfit based on sleeve length. I tend to run cold and still have Florida blood in me, so it is all about how cold it might be that day. This helps me decide if I am going to wear sleeveless, short, mid or long sleeve shirts.
