Helping Kids Learn Organizing Skills is a Worthwhile Endeavor

One of my readers seems to be at her wits end trying to keep her son from tossing everything on the floor. She was so tired of the constant chaos that she wrote to me for help. This is her situation and my recommendations:

Dear Kathi,

I am a subscriber to Add Space to Your Life and enjoy reading and seeing people’s lives change by simply getting organized.

Well, my question involves my son.  He is 8.5 years old and is the most disorganized child I’ve ever known, he keeps everything and most of it gets left on the floor or stuffed in a drawer.  It drives me crazy and I need some suggestions.

He has school papers, books, toys, art/craft items, etc.

Organizing Your Bathroom Often Requires a BIG Purge

Sometimes life has a way of sneaking up on us and, before we know it, our clutter becomes overwhelming. This disorganization and clutter in this particular bathroom was a product of many factors:

#1 The client had lived in this house for a few decades.

The longer you live in one place, the more stuff you collect because you don’t have a super urgent reason to downsize. This particular home had a huge master bath with only one occupant so there was plenty of room to store the extra clutter!

#2 Health challenges made it difficult to clean and keep up with the clutter

As our health deteriorates, we sometimes lose the desire or have the capacity to create order in our life. Health challenges will almost always take priority. The tragic part of this situation is that when you are sick, this is probably the most important time to have space and a clear/clean environment. Space always makes us feel better!

#3.Being surrounded by a lot of stuff helps us to feel less lonely when we live alone.

Some people equate more stuff with greater happiness. They will try to fill the void in their life by accumulating more things.

Unfortunately, this  project was completed after the client moved into an assisted living community.

The good news is that we were able to donate all of the usable toiletries to a local women’s shelter and they were ecstatic!

Book Review for my New Kindle Book – How to Master Your Muck ~ Get Organized. Add Space To Your Life. Live Your Purpose!

Space for calm, clarity, creativity and abundance

This review is from: How to Master Your Muck ~ Get Organized. Add Space To Your Life. Live Your Purpose! (Kindle Edition)

5.0 out of 5 stars

What I love about this book is that it addresses me as an adult. There are many books out there about home organization that tries to shame and guilt that messy adolescent / cat lady part of me, some of the most popular books are extremely religious.

This book is inspiring that the author approach is that of a seasoned professional advising another who has some challenges, and needs guidance in order to get to the next level. It is a good book on home organization, for people who are running small business within their home.

It would be lovely to be able to walk into my home office, and have clarity and space, instead of clutter… to be able to see the forest (big picture) without the unnecessary weeds and trees, have great software/and apps in my laptop for tracking, and networking, and marketing and finally a streamlined closet with great basis clothing to wear to see my clients that brands my image.

What Sets addSpace Apart From Other Coaching Services

Here is a quick Q&A to help you understand a bit more about Kathi Burns, the founder of addSpace To Your Life!

1.How did you get started in the business?
I started this business as a love offering for a friend in need who was sick and being over run by her clutter. As I volunteered with her, I discovered that I loved this work and that I had an innate ability to help people learn how to release and let go. After doing a bit of research, I also learned that there was a big need for people with my skill set.

2.What do you enjoy most about your profession?
Helping clients shift away from stuck habits and move toward a life of their dreams. Helping them embrace change with open minds and anticipate the best is a result of their release from being stuck in the muck of their stuff.

3.What separates you and your company from the competition?
As both a Professional Organizing and Image Consultancy, I help clients change on the surface level of their environment. Their block could be a wardrobe that does not create a successful image or a home or office that does not function properly. I am all about environments and my goal is to make them function at their highest level.

4.Who is a good prospect for you?
Anyone who is experiencing some type of transition in their life. Switching careers, getting married, downsizing or starting a new business are a few examples. Basically anyone who needs to make a profound change and wants to learn the easiest and quickest way to move through it is the ideal addSpace client.

Also, any corporation that wants to host a workshop or training program to create a significant increase in productivity within their departments.  Also any organization that needs an inspiring  and motivational speaker for their next conference.

Organize Your Magazines, Reduce Clutter, Read More

Too many magazines, too little time ~ this summer, I vow to read more! Does this sound familiar? Most of us purchase magazine subscriptions with the good intention of cuddling up with the latest fashion news or staying on top of business trends.

Time has a way of stealing away our well-intended reading time and, if we are not careful, before we know it, we have Read the rest of this entry »
